  • Biola University Visited ULK

    For partnership purposes , Biola University visited ULK on this Friday, 8th June,2012.

    Biola University is a private Evangelical Christian University located in the southern California region of the United States of America.

    It was represented by Dr. SUSAN Elliot accompanied by MUNYAMANA Eric ( Executive Director of P.E.A.C.E Plan).

    In the talks between ULK and Guests from Biola University, ULK authorities explained :

    1. ULK Principles, values and Objectives
    2. Available faculties
    3. ULK Prospects (Masters Programmes, etc)

    Biola University promised to build a higher partnership with Kigali Independent University.

  • 3 ARIPES Trophies at ULK

    On this Sunday, 10th June,2012, Final matches of the competition organized by ARIPES took place at different stadiums (Amahoro, ETO Kicukiro, Kimisagara, Nyamirambo) here at Kigali.

    Among 5 Trophies competed for, ULK won 3.

    Matches were attended by students, staff from different universities and fans.

  • ULK Teams (3) are qualified for final ARIPES matches

    In semi- final matches of the competition organized by ARIPES, all ULK Teams were qualified for the final matches. The scores are as follows :

    1. Football (Boys)

    ULK 1 – 0 RTUC

    2. Volleyball(Girls)

    ULK 3 – 0 UNILAK

    3. Basketball-Boys

    ULK 59 – 47 RTUC

    The final matches will take place on 10th June, 2012.

  • Conference on International Criminal Justice at ULK

    On 25th May,2012, the Faculty of Law (Lecturers and students) had a conference on International Criminal Justice.

    The main speaker, The Senior Legal officer of International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda(ICTR), Mrs Anees AHMED, accompanied by BAYINGANA Janvier, explained the background, establishment, effectiveness and efficiency of International Criminal Court.

    He also addressed to the audience the issues concerning the transfer of some cases from Arusha to Rwanda.

    Mr. Anees AHMED differentiated international crimes:

     Crime of Genocide
     War crimes
     Crimes against humanity
     Etc

    Mr. BAYINGANA Janvier, in his speech, explained the protection of witnesses of the Genocide against the Tutsi.

    The International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda promised a strong collaboration and cooperation in the future in order to strengthen the faculty of Law:

     Offering internship to ULK students (from the faculty of Law) at Arusha
     Supervision of memoirs of ULK students by specialist from Arusha
     Providing training to the members of the faculty of Law(students and staff)
     Lecturers of the faculty of Law can go and conduct research at Arusha and exchange experiences
     Visiting and helping the faculty of Law

    The International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda appreciated the progress met by the University in general and the Faculty of Law in particular in terms of infrastructure, equipment, quality of Education and students intervention.

    It also appreciated the contribution of Kigali Independent University to reconstruct the Country destroyed by the Genocide.

  • ULK’s Genocide Commemoration

    In the context of commemorating the Genocide perpetrated against the Tutsi, ULK organized two conferences, for day and evening sections, which took place on 10th and 11th May,2012.

    On 10th May,2012, ULK had two speakers:

    1. KARENGERA Ildephonse(Director of memory and prevention of Genocide ) and
    2. RWASAMIRERA Jean Damascène(Delegate from IBUKA)

    On 11th May,2012 there were two speakers:

    1. Lt General Charles R. KAYONGA (Chief of Defense staff – RDF )
    and
    2. Major General Jacques MUSEMAKWELI(Chief of civil – Military Relations)

    On 12th, May,2012, the commemoration night was started by the WALK TO REMEMBER, from St Famille to Gisozi Memorial site where they bowed to Genocide Victims and deposited bouquet of flowers on tombs.

  • AGEULK elections and Swearing in ceremonies

    AGEULK is a general association gathering all Students of Kigali Independent University.

    The Committee members of that umbrella are annually elected by the college of representatives elected in each promotion.

    The elections of the 2012 committee took place on March the 18th 2012. As usual, the Committee has to swear in two weeks after elections, the swearing in ceremony took therefore place on the 1st April, 2012.The event took place from 10:30am-1:30pm.

    There event was attended by students from different promotions, Dean of Faculties, Head of Departments as well as Lecturers and other different staffs of the University.

    The Guest of honor was Prof. Dr. RWIGAMBA BALINDA; President and Founder of ULK.

    During that event, certificates of merit were delivered to Class Representatives and members of the out-going Committee for the recognition of their commitment.

    In his speech the President of the outgoing committee, Mr. SEBUDANDI Moses exposed before audience different achievements for the mandate 2011. He said that, different goals and aims were reached in partnership with Authorities of ULK and commitment of all members of the out-going committee and thanked all of them.

    He invited the new committee to make path forward to go further and achieve more. He profited the same occasion to show different trophies won in different competitions organized in the framework of fighting against drugs usage by the Rwandan Youth as well as those organized by ARIPES (Association of Private Higher Learning Institutions and Universities).

    The new president of AGEULK; Mr MUGENZI Elie said that the new committee will do all its best to improve services to be rendered to Students and foster the collaboration and cooperation with ULK authorities as well as other public or private organs and Institutions.

    Speaking at this occasion, The President and Founder of ULK, Prof.Dr. RWIGAMBA BALINDA thanked both committees and promised a strengthened and continuing collaboration and partnership. He addressed his thanks to the outgoing committee for its achievements. He concluded his speech calling upon the out-coming Committee to select six more needy students to be supported by RWIGAMBA FOUNDATION, and this constituted a great sign of good and strengthened partnership.

    He also called upon all Students to have ethical values and reminded them that the motto of ULK is «SCIENCE AND CONCIENCE» and called them upon to bear it always in mind.
