ULK Kigali March 25, 2015 Managing Director of Equity Bank Rwanda Limited Mr. Samuel Kirubi and his team met Founder and President of Kigali Independent University ULK Prof. Dr Rwigamba Balinda on the possibility to establish a partnership between both institutions.

Mr Kirubi appreciated the Founder of ULK for his warm welcome and tremendous achievements that everyone can witness and went on to tell him about the work of Equity Bank Limited.

Mr Kirubi told the Founder of ULK the history of Equity Bank, its vision, mission, values and achievements. Equity Bank is a Kenyan Bank with a vision to extend its activities around Africa in a bid to be the champion of the socio-economic prosperity of the people of Africa. The Bank has subsidiaries in Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan, Rwanda and Tanzania.

The Managing Director of Equity Bank revealed to Prof. Dr. Rwigamba Balinda advantages of working with Equity Bank Limited. As a matter of fact, Equity Bank is the second bank with many customers in Rwanda after Banque Populaire. Not only Equity Bank provides capital but also financial advisory services to ensure that their vision is reached.


“The partnership between Equity Bank and ULK can be established and channeled through areas such as IT systems, Advisory services, trainings on various areas such as entrepreneurship and saving and issuing other products to the staff.

The Founder and President of ULK appreciated Mr. Kirubi for a brief presentation on the work done by Equity and saluted their achievements. More importantly, the Founder of ULK was amazed by the fact that Equity Bank stood the test of time since its embryonic stage up to its current commendable level. He emphasized that their achievements today are the fruits of a combination of both hard work and core values.

Both Mr Kirubi and his team were eager to know the key to ULK success and Prof. Dr. Rwigamba did not hesitate to share with them 5 principles leading to success. The principles include having faith in God, in your project and in yourself, knowing one’s mission on earth as humble servants of God and people, living ethical values, having positive thoughts and having a good management.


Prof. Dr Rwigamba Balinda expressed his satisfaction and therefore promised collaboration in order to see how both institutions can attain socio-economic prosperity of Africa, a direction they have in common. The partnership is now in the pipeline.
