Honourable Prime Minister Pierre Damien HABUMUREMYI unveiled the book “Rwanda building a model Nation state” at ULK
This 23 January 2014, in the campus of the Kigali Independent University (ULK) Prime Minister Dr. Pierre Damien Habumuremyi unveiled his book entitled “Rwanda: Building a Model Nation State”.
Talking about what inspired him to write the book, Dr. Habumuremyi said “It’s an experience I went through, I saw how leaders played a big role in the destruction of our country before 1994 and decided to write on it and show how good leaders may change and construct the country as it was done after 1994 Genocide against Tutsi”.
The book explains, in detail, the successfully story of how Rwanda emerged, not without difficulties, from the ashes of the 1994 genocide against Tutsi to become a unified, prosperous and dignified country.
The book shows the role of the colonial and hegemonic powers in the Rwandan conflict and it emphasizes on the role played by Rwandan elite in destroying the Rwandanness.
The first chapter deals with the origin of the Rwandan conflict while the second analyses exclusions and discriminations that characterised Rwanda before 1994.
In the third chapter Dr. Habumuremyi show the 1994 genocide against Tutsi and the Rwandan Social anomie whilst the last chapter illustrates the 1994 post genocide leadership and the policy to rebuild Rwanda as a model nation-state.
The book clearly states how cyclical conflicts that tore Rwanda apart generally amounted to political and identity schisms between Rwandan elites.
This event was attended by the Ministers of education, sports and culture, in charge of cabinet affairs, minister in the office of the President as well as many academicians and researchers.
