NEW AGEULK COMMITTEE TAKES OATH OF OFFICE
On 2nd March 2018, the new AGEULK Committee that was elected by the representatives of students a few weeks ago took their oath of office to officially kick-start their tenure. The swearing in ceremony was graced by a number of personalities including the Vice Chancellor of Kigali Independent University ULK, Dr. Ezechiel SEKIBIBI who was with his Assistant Becky BALINDA having in her remits academic affairs. Also in attendance were former AGEULK members, ULK staff and students, parents to some of the members of the new committee, to mention but a few.
Speaking at the function, Mr. Gervais GATANAZI, the outgoing Guild President, put it that together with the team he headed, accomplished a number of deeds both for the benefit of the university and the community surrounding it. However, Gatanazi was quick to make it clear that there are some projects they had kick-started which were yet to be accomplished and he tasked the new committee to strive for their implementation.
The function started shortly after the clock had struck 12h00 and the master of ceremony, Mr. Jean Baptiste MANIRAKIZA led participants in a word of prayer before calling CEP Choir to entertain the participants.
Talking to the audience, Mr. Evariste MURWANASHYAKA, the incumbent Guild President, reiterated that together with his team, they aspire to achieve moiré throughout the academic year. He made a solemn promise to his fellow students that serving them with a willing heart is a top priority for the new committee.
Mr. Alphonse NYAMWASA, THE Permanent Secretary of AGEULK, led the exercise of taking oath whereby the members elect could hold the National Flag with their left hand while the right handed was stretched up in the air then they could utter the solemn oath.
Dr. Ezechiel SEKIBIBI, who was the Chief Guest, thanked everyone for having honored the event with their presence. He also quoted Ellen G. White and told the new committee that being honest is what will make them great men and women who will be appreciated by those they represent.
”The greatest want of the world is the want of men – men who will not be bought or sold; men who in their inmost souls are true and honest; men who do not fear to call sin by its right name; men whose conscience is as true to duty as the needle to the pole; men who will stand for the right though the heavens fall”, he told them.
It should be noted that those who helped the outgoing committee achieve its preset goals were awarded various gifts. In the same perspective, the outgoing committee was awarded with certificates of appreciation by the management of the university.
At the end of the function, group photos were taken for future memories of the event.
