ULK launches URUGERERO
Kigali, August 5, 2015, Kigali Independent University ULK was privileged to welcome the Chairperson of Itorero, Mr RUCAGO Boniface who officially launched Urugerero. The event brought together ULK officials, government authorities and ULK staff and students. Among ULK authorities were Prof. Dr. Rwigamba Balinda,Founder and President of ULK; Dr. Sekibibi Ezechiel, Vice Chancellor of ULK. Others included Mayor of Gasabo District as well as army and police staff.

Dr. Ezechiel Sekibibi was given the floor to say a word of prayer and introduce guests. After introduction, the Head of Urugerero, Mugabo Gerald said, “Though we are not fighting a military battle, we have a special battle we are fighting to change our mind and attitude as we struggle to develop our country by imparting ethical values of Rwandans”.
He went further and said that there is something wrong with people who do not feel like serving their country. Those people do not know where they come from, where they are and where they are going.
Mayor of Gasabo district, present at the event, reminded the youth that education which is not built on the culture and values is just moving sand. He emphasized that Urugerero will help them change their lives within a short period of time.
Founder and President of ULK, Prof. Dr. Rwigamba Balinda emphasized the importance of combining both science and conscience without which young people will only destroy themselves. He said moral conscience and civic education is the foundation of all. He expressed his vote thanks to Mayor and the staff of army and police who come to witness the event and most especially he thanked Mr. Rucagu Boniface, chairperson of Itorero for his commitment to promote Rwandan values.
In his speech, Mr. Rucagu Boniface told students Urugerero contributed to the creation of our country, its extension and liberation in 1994. Furthermore, Urugerero serves to help Rwandans change their mind and attitude.
“Participation in the national Itorero is not a waste of time because our battle therein is to help people change their mindset in a constant way. It will help you develop the spirit of brotherhood and have ethical values that will enable you to build your own country”. Mr. Rucagu added.
He also told students that they are lucky to have Prof. Dr. Rwigamba Balinda who struggled to make ethical values materialize among Rwandans. “You have to take him as your role modal if you want to develop your carrier.” Rucagu added.
Apart from launching Urugerero, Mr. Boniface Rucagu unveiled the wall on which it is written the values of Rwandans and was taken around to visit best practices attained by students assembled together in Urugerero.
